NVIDIA says that all new six G-Sync laptops announced come with new 75GHz displays that meet the standards. Those found not able to hit the 75 Hz refresh cycle will not be given the green light. NVIDIA has set up a whole G-Sync validation process, which entails that laptop makers submit their own panels to NVIDIA for G-Sync testing and selection. But this will not be how things roll in real life, for the time being.

Technically, a laptop manufacturer could bestow G-Sync support to an existing laptop via a driver and a firmware update. This allows for a direct link between the GPU and the panel to be created. G-Sync will replace these scalers with a module meant to connect to the panel.īut laptops don’t use scalers and attach directly to the graphics cards via LVDS or eDP (built-in DisplayPort). To embed G-Sync, monitors have to be designed with a particular hardware module about the size of a credit card.ĭesktop monitors come with built-in scalers that handle different inputs and communicate with graphics cards. But G-Sync on a desktop monitor works a bit different than it does on laptops. G-Sync is a technology that can synchronize the refresh rate of a monitor with the frame rate of a graphics processing unit. NVIDIA talked about the new technology during its appearance at Computex 2015 trade show taking place these days in Taiwan.
